Hello world!

February 10th, 2009

Hi, my name is Peter.

I live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and have started this blog as a way to express my ideas and thoughts on a few topics and issues that are important to me.

The main focus will be on politics, economics and reason (thinking rationally) however I will also try to cover issues that impact on Open Source projects, Open source ideals and anything else that effects the Open sources community (I may even write the odd  technical how-to if I find time).

Finally I will also do my best to comment and talk about sporting based issues. With a heavy focus on cricket and golf (my two favourite sports).

Look forward to blogging with you all.

Kind regards

Peter

Queensland Election

March 23rd, 2009

The Queensland election was held last Saturday with the Australian Labor party (ALP) easily defeating the Liberal-National party (LNP).

With many people tipping a cliff hanging finish the ALP win was surprising at how easily it returned to power.

Why do you think this was so?

My personal opion is that while the public did not really want another term of the current ALP government, the LNP and especially Lawerence Springborg offered no real altertnative.  The public where waiting to hear what this new LNP really represented. Alias it never came.

What was so impressive about the ALP and Kevin Rudd's performance at the 2007 federal election is that not only where the public ready for a change for the sake of change he sold to the Australian people what he represented.

I think the LNP will look back at the result over the next couple of weeks and realise that the Leader has to be able to communicate with the public in a way that gives comfort and reassurance to them.

Let me know your thoughts on the election.
